The next edition of the Day of the Entrepreneur, 2010, will take place on the 16th and 17th June at the Barcelona Trade Fair, in Montjuïc.
In this new edition, the Day of the Entrepreneur will be renewing itself with the aim of making a jump in size so as to consolidate itself as the event of reference in terms of entrepreneurship and business. As such the Day of the Entrepreneur 2010, will be.
MORE ORIENTED TOWARDS BUSINESS AND NETWORKING
. The birth of the Entrepreneurs’ Fair, an exhibition space for offering products and services for entrepreneurship and business growth
. Networking activities will be boosted, creating new spaces, and enlarging their capacity.
MORE PARTICIPATIVE
. The participation of entities and entrepreneurs from throughout the territory will be strengthened, generating spaces for carrying out their activities and programmes.
MORE INTERNATIONAL
. A specific programme will be developed aimed at attracting entrepreneurial talent and fostering contacts with the local entrepreneurial fabric.
The Day of the Entrepreneur is promoted by Barcelona City Council - through Barcelona Activa, the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the Diputació de Barcelona (the Provincial Council of Barcelona) which has joined as a promoting entity this year, the Generalitat de Catalunya, ‘la Caixa’, and the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade; and is sponsored by the the Consorci de la Zona Franca, Google, ICO and Ikea Business.

History
The Day of the Entrepreneur of Barcelona is a consolidated event and its a reference with regard to entrepreneurship and business growth. This was confirmed by the constant increase in the number of participants and entities involved and with the high levels of satisfaction and loyalty of the attendees..
The eighth edition, which took place on 20 and 21 May 2009 at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, brought 6525 entrepreneurs with business ideas or businesses; 39 senior managers and decision makers which are on the top of their sectors, the protagonists of the most successful business initiatives in recent years, 16 networks of entrepreneurs with international component; 73 organizations that support the entrepreneurial initiative, and 335 speakers, experts and advisers.
Thought up by Barcelona Activa in 2001, this initiative has received top level recognition for its support for entrepreneurs due to its value and contribution to boosting business creation and growth.
In this way, in 2002 Barcelona Activa informed the European Union about the initiative which led to the creation of the figure of the EUROPEAN DAY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR, organised since then in more than 30 European cities.
The Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona has also offered its collaboration of the DAY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR since 2003, becoming, along with the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Industry, co-promoters of the event since 2005.
Finally, the participation of the Ministry of Industry in 2005 led to the conception of the project Emprendemos Juntos (Let’s become entrepreneurs together), that meant the transfer and technical assistance by Barcelona Activa to the different autonomous communities of the state for the coordinated implementation of their DAY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR in May 2007.
In 2008, ‘la Caixa’, which until then had been the sponsor, became a promoting entity of the event.
The institutional interest created by the DAY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR was also extended from its outset to the fabric of entities and institutions that offer support to entrepreneurs. Each year a minimum of 40 entities and institutions collaborate in the wide range of activities included in the programme, thus contributing a very important value and quality to the conference.
In 2009, the Day of the Entrepreneur has been framed within the European Year of Creativity and Innovation and endorsed by the European Commission within the European Week of SMEs.
